An outpatient visit ends when the patient leaves the room. An inpatient stay does not, and that is where a clinic that grew a few beds usually feels the strain. This guide covers the five pieces we think a small hospital or nursing home should sort out first, and what CuraVerto's inpatient module provides for each.

First, the plan question

Inpatient care is part of the HMS plan, at ₹10,000 per sanctioned bed per year.

  • ₹25,000
    CMS plan: not included
  • 10 to 150
sanctioned beds on published HMS pricing
  • ₹10,000
HMS plan: includes inpatient care, per bed per year

The clinic needs to be on the HMS plan and have the module enabled on its account, and a module setting alone does not unlock it on a lower plan. The module is built and tested, and we describe it as available for scoping with a walkthrough, not as something to switch on blind.

1. A bed board that is the truth

Every bed shows its state, grouped by ward, with an attention list for what needs a person.

Bed states
  • Vacant
  • Occupied
  • Reserved
  • Being cleaned
  • Blocked

A vacated bed shows how long it has been waiting to be cleaned, and a visible Mark clean button returns it to use. Beds carry a category with a price multiplier and an optional fixed override, so the bill is calculated from the category rather than typed by hand.

2. Ward tasks by shift

Every nurse task due in a ward, for a chosen date and shift, grouped by patient.

  1. STEP 1
    Morning
    08:00 to 14:00
  2. STEP 2
    Afternoon
    14:00 to 20:00
  3. STEP 3
    Night
20:00 to 08:00 the next day

Shifts are computed in the clinic's time zone rather than the browser's. Medicine administration windows and vitals sit in the same task queue, and the bed board surfaces late tasks and abnormal vitals as flags.

3. A diet list the kitchen can use

Every admitted patient with their diet, nil-by-mouth instruction and kitchen notes, by ward and bed.

Print
  • A plain copy that needs no colour
  • Rows changed since the last print are marked CHANGED in words
Mark as sent
  • A separate, visible button records the list as sent to the kitchen

Printing does not mark anything sent, because a browser cannot tell a printed page from a cancelled print dialog. On a patient's stay, a nil-by-mouth banner shows in red while the instruction is active and in amber when it is upcoming.

4. An operation theatre list

One section per theatre for the day, with each case in list order and the gates still missing.

Each case shows
  • Planned start and end
  • Expected start when earlier cases run late
  • Gates still missing

Booking a case is checked against theatre and doctor availability by the database, and an overbook needs a stated reason and a role that is allowed to overbook. The module also holds the anaesthesia record, sign-out and post-op charges, and each of those is a separate area to review during scoping.

5. Discharge that cannot skip the paperwork

A routine discharge expects a signed summary and a settled final bill first.

  1. STEP 1
    Sign the summary
    The discharge summary is signed.
  2. STEP 2
    Settle the bill
The stay's final bill is settled and linked.
  3. STEP 3
    Finish the stay
    The patient is discharged.
  4. STEP 4
    Send the PDF
A signed summary can be sent over WhatsApp.

If the summary is not signed, the discharge is refused with a message to sign it first, or to ask an admin to discharge without it, so an override is a deliberate act by an authorised person rather than a default. Amendments to a signed summary create a new version instead of editing history.

Ward questionWhere it is answered in CuraVerto
Which beds are free right now?Bed board: vacant, occupied, reserved, cleaning, blocked
What is due on the ward this shift?Ward tasks screen: Morning, Afternoon or Night, grouped by patient
What is the kitchen sending, and what changed?Diet list with CHANGED marks and a mark-as-sent button
Is theatre running late, and what is missing?OT day list with expected start and outstanding gates
Can this patient go home?Discharge screen: signed summary and settled final bill

What we have left out on purpose

Not covered in this post
It does not claim NABH accreditation outcomes, and it does not walk through insurance or TPA billing; if cashless billing matters to you, raise it during scoping so it can be shown live rather than summarised here.

A hospital moving from OPD to IPD should also expect a setup phase for wards, bed categories, rate cards and staff roles before the first admission.
